Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to Alabama Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its content, or submitting a search means that you accept all terms stated below. They apply to the statewide reference material, county routing links, and any search feature shown on the website. Official Alabama agencies and courts remain responsible for the records they create or maintain, and their own access rules still apply. If you disagree with any condition or cannot use the website within these limits, discontinue use of the website.

NO FCRA USE. Alabama Criminal History is privately owned and has no affiliation with a local, state, or federal government body. This site and its advertising partners do not offer services for credit, employment, insurance, tenant screening, or another use governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The website identifies Alabama criminal-record resources. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site with no government connection. It neither stores official criminal records nor retrieves them, performs official background checks, or submits documents for a visitor.

The content directs readers to Alabama record custodians, including the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency repository, the Alabama Department of Corrections, the Alabama Sex Offender Registry, state courts, and local offices in Alabama's 67 counties. The Alabama Public Records Law, Ala. Code §§36-12-40 through 36-12-46, applies to public custodians, while Alabama CHRI access and dissemination are controlled by Ala. Admin. Code r. 265-X-2-.01 through -.03. Third-party tools may also be linked for independent research.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of use, you agree not to:

  • Use automated scrapers, bots, or similar tools against the pages
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system or account
  • Interfere with site performance or another visitor's access
  • Use information to threaten, stalk, or harass a person
  • Rely on site content for hiring, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Violate an applicable federal, Alabama, or local law

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information found here or through a linked service may not be used to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may also be criminal. Ala. Code §15-20A-8 specifically warns that Alabama Sex Offender Registry data may not be used to unlawfully injure, harass, or commit a crime against a listed person. Registry information supports public-safety awareness. It does not authorize vigilante conduct, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Alabama Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and does not create a background check, credit report, or other consumer report. Its advertising partners likewise do not provide site tools for evaluating applicants, rental applications, insurance rates, or creditworthiness. You agree not to use data from this site or a linked tool to:

  • Make any other decision regulated by the FCRA
  • Determine eligibility for a government benefit, permit, or license
  • Set an insurance premium or assess creditworthiness
  • Evaluate a renter or housing applicant
  • Make a hiring or firing decision

A background check for a regulated purpose must be obtained through an authorized official channel or a screening company that complies with the FCRA. ALEA repository information is also subject to Alabama's eligibility and dissemination rules.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how an Alabama charge, conviction, warrant, or expungement law applies to a specific situation. Consult an attorney licensed in Alabama for legal guidance.

6. No Warranties

All content is provided "as is." No guarantee is made that:

  • A partner search result will be complete or accurate
  • The pages contain no mistake, defect, or security weakness
  • The website will remain available without interruption
  • Information is complete, current, or correct at a particular time

Alabama criminal records change as charges are filed, dismissed, restricted, or expunged. Updates can lag, and gaps may occur. No content here is an official statement from ALEA, an Alabama court, a sheriff, or another public agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to Alabama agency pages, court portals, county sheriffs and clerks, legal-aid groups, or outside search services. Those destinations are independently operated. Alabama Criminal History is not responsible for their content, availability, fees, or data practices. Review a destination's terms before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Alabama Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, distributed, altered, or used to create derivative material without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Alabama Criminal History is not liable for damages arising from use of the website, including a decision based on information found here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to hold Alabama Criminal History harmless from a claim, action, or demand caused by your use of the website or violation of these terms, including related costs and legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Alabama law governs these terms. Any dispute connected to use of this website must be brought in a court located in Alabama.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A new version becomes effective when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or terminated at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be modified only as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be directed through the Contact page.
