Alabama Criminal History is a private reference resource, so official record requests must go to the government office that keeps the source file. The routing below identifies the proper statewide system or local records custodian for common Alabama criminal-record questions. Depending on the record, that may be ALEA, the Alabama Department of Corrections, a court clerk, or an agency in one of Alabama's 67 counties. Choose the office by record type and where the event occurred, since no single Alabama counter holds every arrest, court, custody, or registry file.

This Is Not a Government Office. Alabama Criminal History is privately operated and has no affiliation with ALEA, an Alabama court, or any county agency. We cannot obtain official records, perform an official background check, correct or remove a record, or receive an expungement filing. Contact the responsible government custodian for those services.

Need an Official Record?

Use these Alabama sources for the records most often requested:

  • Criminal history and a personal rap sheet: use the fingerprint-based self-review process through the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency repository
  • Court case files: consult Alabama criminal court cases or ask the clerk for the court that handled the matter
  • County records: locate the relevant sheriff, jail, or circuit clerk through the Alabama county directory
  • Police and incident reports: request the record from the law-enforcement agency that created it
  • State-prison custody: search the Alabama Department of Corrections Inmate Search
  • Expungement: file an eligible petition in the criminal division of the Circuit Court for the county where the charge was filed
