Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is transmitted directly to the third-party company operating that service. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Alabama Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained as needed to respond. It is kept within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers automatically receive basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view timestamps
- The referring website, when one is provided
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show how the site is used, such as which pages draw traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers combine this activity into broader performance data. Cookies may be blocked in browser settings, although doing so can change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected partner service
- Diagnosing and correcting technical problems
- Measuring which pages are useful and which need improvement
- Operating the site and maintaining its performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Alabama Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. Its content identifies how to request records from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency repository, the Alabama Department of Corrections, the Alabama Sex Offender Registry, Alabama courts, and local custodians throughout the state's 67 counties. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal records.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes shown on the site. Information submitted through a tool is governed by that partner's privacy policy rather than this one. Each partner controls its retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to ALEA, Alabama courts, county sheriffs or clerks, legal-aid organizations, and third-party search tools. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may follow activity across websites to select targeted ads. That tracking occurs through the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Information may still be disclosed to:
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when compelled by a valid legal order
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the pages
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search partners that process a visitor's query
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for collected data. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed secure, however, and this policy cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If data from a minor is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's location and the law that applies. Alabama's Public Records Law, Ala. Code §§36-12-40 through 36-12-46, governs records held by Alabama public custodians rather than data held by this private site. Alabama criminal-history dissemination is separately limited by Ala. Admin. Code r. 265-X-2-.01 through -.03. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Opt out of certain forms of data processing
- Request deletion of personal data
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request a copy of personal information held about you
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as site practices change. Any replacement will be posted here and identified by a new effective date, so visitors should review the current version periodically.
